100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – #68: …Grey …..

Here is the entry for Week 68 of the 100 Word Challenge using the prompt

My grey came to me as I walked through autumn leaves: Lady Jane Grey. I knew her name but nothing of her. I looked her up.

Born in 1536-ish, Jane was the eldest of three girls born to Henry and Frances. She was educated well and for reasons unknown sent away aged 11 to live with Henry VIII’s widow, Catherine Parr. The politics of succession, manipulated by Henry VIII, twisted fate so that Jane (Henry’s great niece) found herself Queen in 1553. That same politics ended her reign after just nine days and had her executed in 1554. She was beheaded. She was 17.
